RIOT was founded by Dr. Russell T. Warne and his team to address a major gap in intelligence testing: no rigorously developed, professionally administered IQ tests were available solely online. Recognizing this need, they studied gold-standard intelligence assessments like the WAIS-IV/V, CogAT 9, RIAS-2, and WISC-V, which psychologists and researchers have long relied upon. While these tests provide scientifically rigorous measures of intelligence, they come with significant barriers. They are inaccessible for online use, prohibitively expensive, updated infrequently, and require in-person administration.
To create a scientifically valid yet widely accessible alternative, Dr. Warne and his team set out to develop the most comprehensive online intelligence testing platform. Their goal was to match the validity of traditional assessments while eliminating the cost, logistical hurdles, and outdated limitations that had historically restricted access to intelligence testing. RIOT eliminates these barriers, offering a scientifically rigorous intelligence test that is accessible, affordable, and designed for the modern world.
Dr. Russell T. Warne is an intelligence research and psychometrics expert with over 15 years of experience studying IQ testing and assessment. As Riot IQ's chief scientist, he leads the development of scientifically rigorous intelligence tests, ensuring the accuracy and validity of the RIOT assessments. His work includes designing subtests, overseeing data collection and analysis, and producing technical documentation.
Beyond his role at RIOT, Dr. Warne is a prolific writer and educator. He is the author of In the Know: Debunking 35 Myths About Human Intelligence and Statistics for the Social Sciences: A General Linear Model Approach, both published by Cambridge University Press. He has also written over 60 scholarly articles on intelligence and cognitive assessment.
Outside of research, Dr. Warne balances his professional life with raising four children and pursuing his long-standing passion for theater reviewing, including critiques of Broadway productions and performances at the Theatre Olympics. He also enjoys playing the piano and organ.
